The Commonwealth Centre has long been a major office complex anchored at the heart of Cairns. Integral to a major upgrade was a full refurbishment of the common amenities. Throughout the building all facilities were stripped and re-built to a contemporary fitout design with a full replacement of the hydraulic system and fixtures. Perhaps toilets have a low profile in a large office complex, but they are a key impression for the occupants of the building daily workplace experience
23 Aplin Street is a sound, well managed B class office building with 2,090sqm over two levels. The owners have enjoyed a long term government tenant occupying the entire building. As lease renewal is a time for all tenants to consider whether to further occupy the space, timing was right for the owners to consider an upgrade to entice the ongoing use by the current tenants.
The Cairns staff fulfill a diverse range of roles in support of the Groote Eylandt operations. This new premises complements the two administration offices completed earlier in the same building. This fitout however is much more than a daily working environment; it is a gathering place for the Traditional Owners; a place to plan and set strategies for the future development of the communities across the archipelago.
After a recent large vacancy, it was time for a significant tenancy re-work for the Centre. new premises configurations, access & concepts were developed for the current market demand. alongside the re-planning, fitout concepts were prepared, to entice new tenants with an interior design that incorporate the best of contemporary workplace trends.
